A Sweet Story

As I unpack boxes, I keep finding sweet little gems like this one. This is a short story that my brother wrote, I am guessing in upper elementary school. It makes me nostalgic for our years growing up on our awesome little hill in Vicksburg and Reidville, the village we made out of the cane down the hill by the firepit. Enjoy!

By Christopher Reid:

Through the forest ran the girl. She searched constantly for a haven in which she could rest. Hours now her pursuer had been steadily chasing her. Silently he combed the wood searching for her hiding places.

As she ran, she spotted a small cave in the bank of a hill. She examined it closer and found it a superb hiding place. With a little work, it could be her salvation...

Though the forest ran the boy. He searched constantly for a haven in which the girl could be resting. Hours now he had pursued her. Silently he combed the wood searching for her hiding places...

As he ran, he spotted a small cave in the bank of a hill. With a little work, it could be a superb hiding place...

He paused and then reached down into the grass. A little giggle arose from the hole, followed by a little girl's head.

"Boo!" she hollered at the boy.

"C'mon, little sis. You really think you scared me? Well, now you're it. Count to ten."

They both paused and smiled at each other, until the boy turned and ran.

"I, 2, 3..."

Nice. I remember writing that. Who would have thunk my genius was present at such an early age?

Oh my gosh. I am so glad you still have that. I hope that my son and daughter have this exact kind of relationship as they grow. You are so blessed!
