Modet Dance Collective and Shmib Dance Present: Collected and Conscious

Links Hall at Constellation
3111 N Western Ave (the old Viaduct Theatre)
$15 General, $10 Students and Seniors—tickets are onsale now!!

THE WHAT:
Collected and Conscious is an evening of dance exploring the things we can and can’t control in our lives and how we build a community to support us.

Modet Dance Collective is the dance collective I helped start in 2013, based on a blending of modern dance and ballet, sprinkled this year with some hip hop. This year, we are taking our inspiration from the challenges of life and how we handle them. It features dances choreographed by Amy Dahlem, Dina Kats, Lily Jean, Rebecca Robertstad, Anna Zordan and myself. I love these women, and the pieces the collective is presenting are so lovely and emotional.

Shmib Dance is a modern dance company under the direction of the amazing Melissa Talleda. I’ve had SUCH a pleasure dancing with this company, as the whole realm of modern dance is completely out of my comfort zone. I’ve learned so much from Melissa, and the piece that she has created is awe-inspiring. This portion of the show is about the desire for one to create a community while maintaining an individual identity.

Collected and Conscious will be performed by: Kimberly Baker, Miranda Baldwin, Amy Dahlem, Emily D’Annunzio, Melissa Driscoll, Michael Gee, Laura Grossman, Dina Kats, Rose Mulvey, Meghan Murphy, Sasha Nolde, Erica Reid, Rebecca Robertstad, Lily Jean, Shanae Sterba, Melissa Talleda, Rebecca E. Taylor, Laura Wagner, and Anna Zordan.

The Shmib portion of the show will be performed to live music written and performed by the band Teach Me Equals. This show will truly be AN EVENT.

Please note: Due to explicit language, the Friday and Saturday shows aren’t recommended for kids, unless you are cool with them hearing the F word a lot. :) The Sunday show will be using alternate tracks, but FYI, there will be the phrase “F it all” a bunch, and that song “Sail” by Awolnation that says “maybe I should kill myself.” Just wanted to throw that out there.

THE VENUE:
Links Hall is the former Viaduct Theatre, under the Western overpass at Belmont. There is some construction in the neighborhood, and the parking lot that used to be a part of the theatre is no longer available. However, there is lots of street parking, much of it is free and non-permit. However, please allow for some extra time to get a parking spot and walk to the venue. If taking public transit, you can Belmont Bus it to Western, and it’s a hop skip and a jump from there.

I recently learned that Links operates a little like a music venue, so sometimes the audience arrives right at 7:00. I would advise arriving a little before 7:00 to make sure you can get a seat before the start time. Also, there is a lovely bar there, so you can get a beverage to sip on for the show, and you are able to take these into the theatre.

THE TAKEAWAY:
I am so freaking proud of this show. I’ve put my heart and soul and time and tears and blood and bruises into it, and I can’t wait to show you what that looks like. Being a dancer again has brought me such a renewed sense of self, and I thank you all personally so much for supporting me in this endeavor.

Special big THANKS to those of you who supported our Kickstarter campaign!! It is because of you that this show is happening. THANK YOU.

Much love to each of you, and hope to see you at the show!
